The 2025 Major League Baseball draft may be still two months away, but that hasn't stopped the projections coming in. Another mock draft was held recently, and the Blue Jays and two interesting prospects are entering their orbit.
Billy Carlson is a shortstop from Corona High School in California, who has a commitment to Tennessee State. Pegged at the number six overall prospect ahead of the draft, Carlson is an intriguing five tool player and one of three eligible draftees who were part of USA Baseball's National High School Invitational last year.
Once thought to be a legitimate two-way prospect thanks to his skills on the mound, including a fastball in the mid-90s, His line drive approach at the plate signifies underlying power. With an arm as high as 70, he has all the tools to be an outstanding middle infielder.
Kade Anderson is a left-handed pitcher from Louisiana State University and the ninth overall prospect in the pre-draft listings. Although he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022, which caused him to miss his senior year of high school, he recovered nicely and still exhibits electric stuff.
His fastball touches 97 and plays better than that because of its tendency to rise as it crosses the strike zone. He also bodes an upper 70s curveball and a mid 80s slider with a high spin rate.
His athletic, slender frame, combined with his arm speed and quick delivery, makes him a potent weapon on the mound.
Veteran writer Keith Law has the Blue Jays picking Carlson, while baseball America is leaning towards Anderson. Carlson is the more intriguing and versatile prospect of the two, but Anderson feels like the more likelier choice here.
