It's decision day for many major league teams and a number have former Blue Jays now officially have new homes.
As was reported earlier, Cavan Biggio was projected to make the opening day roster for the Royals Today, Kansas City officially announced that former Blue Jays utility player had made the team.
The move might be surprising considering Biggio's .196 spring average. But Cavan has never been a high average hitter. His low strikeout rate combined with the high number of walks he has taken puts his OBP and .457, which is well above-average, even for him.
Look for the Royals to utilize Biggio at mostly second and third, though he will get the odd outfield day mixed in.
One of Biggio's former teammates - and one who was just as popular - also has a new home. The Seattle Mariners announced that Rowdy Tellez has made the team. The first baseman was signed to a minor-league contract this offseason and performed well enough that Seattle will carry him as a lefty bat off the bench.
Finally, Kevin Pillar, who initially announced his retirement at the end of 2024, only to change his mind a couple of months later, is now a Texas Ranger Superman was in camp with Texas as a non-roster invitee. Look for him to fill a fourth outfielder role, who will get starts in centre as well as left field. He could also play right in a pinch.
The Rangers also have another Blue Jays connection. Pitcher Mark Leiter, son of former Blue Jay Al Leiter has also made the team, along with his Vanderbilt teammate Kumar Rocker. They will both be members of the Rangers rotation.
