Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is continuing to make progress in his return from a knee injury, but manager John Schneider told reporters that the team is hoping to have a significant update in the right direction soon.
«No real change, but some progress, which is good,» Schneider told reporters. «Day-to-day with him. I'm hoping, sometime soon, that we have a significant update in the right direction, but still day-to-day.»
The Blue Jays haven't been the same without Bichette in the lineup
The 27-year-old was in the midst of a resurgent season at the plate, slashing .311/.357/.483 through 139 games while leading MLB in hits and doubles.
Without him in September, the offence has floundered.
In 16 games without Bichette in the lineup, the Blue Jays have gone 8-8 and have averaged 3.63 runs scored per game, down from their average of 5.01 in 142 games before Bichette left the lineup.
The team indicated earlier in September that Bichette would not return to the lineup in the regular season, but as their American League East division lead has dwindled from five games on Sept. 16 to a tie on Sept. 25, the need for him to be in the lineup come playoff time is paramount.
If anyone on this roster looks primed for a dominant run into October, it's Bichette.
Further updates on Bichette are expected from manager John Schneider on Friday.
