Many believed the Blue Jays were in trouble after dropping the third game, and with a bullpen game on deck for game 4, it appeared that the momentum was changing in the Bronx Bombers favor
However, as soon as the game started it was clear that their relievers were up to the task.
To the chagrin of the American media and Yankees supporters, reality set in when the Yankees and their fans had to watch the Jays celebrate on their turf in the Bronx zoo while the Blue Jays and their fans moved on to the ALCS.
Here is how U.S. media reacted to the result:

Yanks run without title up to 16 years as magic disappears
The New York Daily News headline may have been the harshest on their beloved superstar Aaron judge with a pun directed at their rookie pitcher.
Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy also had some fun with the Yankees seeing as he is a big Red Sox fan and sarcastically congratulated them on their Wild Card round win.
Congrats to the Yankees! Another successful season for the Bombers! Nobody can ever take away that wildcard series celebration!
And then there is former Montreal Expo and World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox Pedro Martinez.
Martinez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s Godfather, reacted to the Jays win Wednesday night with an anecdote about his time in the majors.
«For so many years, those fans in New York, bother me with asking me, 'Pedro, who's your daddy?'» the former Red Sox pitcher recalled.
«And now I finally realize, who their daddy is...my Godson. Vladdy Jr. is their daddy! And that is a fact!»
"Vladdy Jr. is your DADDY!» 🤣
Pedro Martinez had a message for Yankees fans after the Blue Jays advanced to the ALCS
Martinez, who won the World Series with Ortiz and the Red Sox in 2004, previously played with the Montreal Expos alongside Guerrero Jr.'s father.
In the aftermath of the Yankees' loss, Alex Rodriguez, who won the World Series with New York the last time they hoisted the Commissioner's Trophy in 2009, said Manager Aaron Boone is the «least to blame» for Wednesday's loss.
«He's got a lot of talent (in the lineup), but for me personally, one of the worst constructions of a roster I've ever seen,» he said on the MLB on Fox broadcast.
«It's just a very, very difficult hand for Boone and honestly they (the Yankees) were exposed against a much better Jays team.»
It has been 16 years since the Yankees last stood atop the baseball world, a drought unthinkable to previous generations of pinstriped royalty.
This group, defined by star power and flashes of dominance, has been unable to complete the job.
