The Toronto Blue Jays will be without second baseman Andrés Giménez in the short-term.
Toronto announced Friday that it has placed Giménez on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain. The move is retroactive to May 8.
Giménez was removed from Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Angels after showing signs of discomfort following an infield single in the seventh inning.
The 26-year-old has an OPS of .577 and three homers through his first 36 games with the Blue Jays. His fielding has been, as expected, exceptional, as Giménez leads all second basemen with six defensive runs saved.
Speaking ahead of Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners, manager John Schneider told reporters that Gimenez would take a few days off baseball activities, but that the team is hopeful he won't be on the IL for too long.
In his place, the Blue Jays are selecting the contract of 29-year-old infielder Michael Stefanic to the major-league roster.
Signed on a minor-league deal in December, Stefanic has had a strong start at triple-A Buffalo, slashing .310/.454/.372 with four stolen bases.

Stefanic spent the first seven years of his pro career in the Angels organization, appearing in MLB games in each of the past three seasons.
He has spent big-league time at second and third base and was Buffalo's primary shortstop to begin 2025.
Reliever Dillon Tate was designated for assignment to make room for Stefanic on Toronto's 40-man roster.
