Perhaps putting Erik Swanson on the 60-Day IL was the right move after all. While it means that the Blue Jays relief pitcher will now be sidelined until the end of May at the earliest, perhaps he could use the extra recovery time.

Swanson just made his rehab appearance down in Florida with the FCL Blue Jays and it did not go according to plan. In his first game back since being diagnosed with an elbow issue, Swanson allowed four runs - two earned - on two hits and failed to record an out.
After giving up a solo home run to the first batter he faced, a pair of defensive miscues and a double pushed Swanson from the game. He left with two runners on base; both came around to score.
While results are not always the most important thing for a pitcher during the rehab process, not getting an out has to be somewhat discouraging for both the Blue Jays and Swanson.
Swanson's rehab is already behind schedule thanks to continuing soreness in his right elbow. The Blue Jays couldn't find any structural but are nevertheless slowing the process down while he ramps up in preparation for a return.
Swanson was a valuable member of the bullpen in 2023, before regressing slightly last year, although he had a strong second half.
If Swanson can figure things out, his presence will be a welcome sight for a bullpen that is currently overworked. His return would help ease the pressure on guys like Chad Green, Yimi Garcia, and Jeff Hoffman.
But the Blue Jays certainly aren't going to rush him.
