Lamb was originally drafted by the Diamondbacks, who selected him as a sixth round pick in 2012. He made his major league debut with the club and spent parts of seven seasons with the team.
He was cut towards the end of the 2020 season and became a journeyman.
He ended up suiting up for six more teams, including a brief but memorable run with the Toronto Blue Jays during the latter half of the 2021 season.
Lamb had a brief two-year peak in 20616-2017, when he hit a combined 59 home runs, had 196 RBIs and was named to his only All-Star game.
Injuries derailed his career and his was never the same player after he hurt shoulder diving for a ground ball early in the 2018 campaign.
While his run with the Blue Jays was brief, he did get into 12 games, hitting one home run while adding six RBIs.
Lamb known around league as a nice-guy with great baseball acumen
While Lamb's career may not have reached the heights as some of his peers, he was known throughout the league as someone with strong baseball sense who was also very approachable.
Those two qualities should serve him well in his new role.
