Could the future be here? According to some reports, the Toronto Blue Jays are very close to signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a long-term extension worth more than $500M.

Spanish Language insider Mike Rodriguez, also known as Mike Deportes, was the first to post about it on his X account.
It's only a week into the season and yet it feels like conversation has been going on forever. Guerrero had initially set a deadline of February 18th, which coincided with the first day of Spring Training.
It is unknown what the length of the contract is but Vladdy had previously talked about wanting something within the 12-15 year range. He also wasn't interested in any deferred money initially, though there have been conflicting reports on whether or not he has changed his tune on that issue.
Although Vladdy had two hits in today's game, he has yet to hit his first home run of the season, eight games in. While that may cause many to say he isn't worth what he is asking for, Vladdy has never envisioned himself as just a home run guy. He has always said that he is a hitter first.
If the Blue Jays and Guerrero are able to come an agreement, it would go a long way in bringing attendance numbers back up, as well as fans trusting this front office again after years of high expectations and no results to show.
Even he does re-sign, it won't end the criticism as the Blue Jays will still need to find ways to win and maintain that success.
Either way, this distraction could finally be over.
