Blue Jays are now dead last in home runs

The Toronto Blue Jays have struggled offensively this season. That much is true. While they were getting on base, they weren't getting the timely hits or power. Now, thanks to an offensive outburst by the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, Toronto is now dead last in the major leagues in home runs.
Entering Sunday, the Blue Jays had hit 23 home runs; the Royals, 18. While Toronto didn't hit any over the fence, Kansas City hit seven -including one from former Blue Jays catcher Luke Maile - in the second game of their double header against the Baltimore Orioles.
That now vaults the Royals past the Blue Jays and into a tie for 28th place with the Pittsburgh Pirates with 25. The Blue Jays now sit in 20th - and last - place.
It's a far cry from 2021 when the Blue Jays hit everything to lead the major leagues in home runs with 261. It's also 10 years on from the 2015-2016 seasons when they had three players with at least 40 home runs.
Even with a change in hitting coaches, there has been no discernible reason for the Blue Jays' lack of power. While they have more success since the calendar flipped to May, "it's early" can only be used as an excuse for so long. Fact of the matter is, the Blue Jays need to start hitting better sooner.
Otherwise, it's going to be a very long season.
