The Toronto Blue Jays pitching depth just took another hit. Starter Jake Bloss - ranked as the number six overall prospect in the Blue Jays system - has been placed on the IL with an elbow issue.

Bloss exited his outing on Saturday after getting one out in the fourth inning; it was his sixth start of the season for Buffalo. He was recently evaluated in Toronto and will continue to be monitored, according to SportsNet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
Acquired as the key prospect in the deal that sent Yusei Kikuchi to the Houston Astros, Bloss has yet to make his debut for the Blue Jays. While General Manager Ross Atkins called him a legitimate option, his season hasn't gone great so far, as he has pitched to a 6.46 ERA and has 13 walks in 23.2 innings.
The Blue Jays have been searching for a consistent 5th starter ever since the first week of the season when Max Scherzer went down with a thumb injury. While the team initially promoted Easton Lucas, it was thought that Bloss could be with Toronto in due course.
Atkins recently said however, that they want Bloss to have smoother outings.
We'd just like to see more consistency out of him. His last two outings have been very effective. If he can repeat that a time or two, then there's a very real option for us.

Now, there is no timeline for his return.
Fortunately, Jose Urena stepped up admirably in his first start with the Blue Jays, though, as they witnessed with Lucas, fortunes can change quickly.
The seriousness of Bloss' injury remains unclear.
