Blue Jays sticking with Lucas despite rough start

The Blue Jays are keeping the faith with Easton Lucas. After two outstanding starts, the 28-year has had a couple of rough outings, getting touched for eight runs in five innings against Atlanta, followed by six runs in 1.2 innings Sunday versus Seattle.
Lucas put the blame squarely on himself.
This time was just awful. I wasn't executing pitches. I wasn't throwing strikes. I was kind of just bad all around ... Every time I just managed to screw it up."
It's a situation that can cause a bit of a concern for manager John Schneider and company. While Max Scherzer is on the mend, he is a question as there is still no timetable for his return.
Jake Bloss has always been next man up in Triple-A, and his schedule would line up relatively well with Lucas' next turn in the rotation. However, he hasn't gotten off to the best of starts in Buffalo.
Eric Lauer's numbers don't blow anybody away, although he is capable. However, he does not currently occupy a 40-man roster spot.
Paxton Schultz is theoretically another option. After his stellar major league debut today, and with his experience as a long man in the minors, he could start the game and be piggybacked with another reliever - likely Yariel Rodriguez. However, that is a less than ideal situation.
However, according to Ben Nicholson-Smith, Schneider plans to keep Lucas in the rotation for now, as the team doesn't want to overwork their veteran starters too early.
For now, Lucas still has a job. But it's a fluid situation.
