Buck Martinez gives update on Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah

27-year-old Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah has gone from the highs of striking out the side in the MLB All-Star Game and being a Cy Young finalist in 2022, to the lows of having one of the worst ERAs of any qualified pitcher in the Major Leagues before being optioned to the minors in 2023.
Then, in 2024, when things were looking up, Manoah experienced a pinching sensation in his right elbow.
It was confirmed that he required surgery on his ulnar collateral ligament and on June 18, 2024, he underwent a hybrid Tommy John procedure, replacing the ligament and anchoring the new one with an internal brace suture.
The Toronto Blue Jays have been patiently waiting on Manoah's return to the lineup as he has been out for quite so time.
The Blue Jays starting rotation in currently in a tough spot as they are still without Max Scherzer as well which means they only have four reliable starting pitchers until Manoah or Scherzer return.
Blue Jays announce update regarding pitcher Alek Manoah
According to recent reports, Manoah is expected to throw from the bullpen today in Dunedin alongside Nick Sandlin who is still recovering from his lat injury that took him out a few weeks ago.

As Manoah continues to progress, Buck Martinez also added recently that he is currently expected to return to play between the first and second week of August if his recovery stays on time.
According to Buck Martinez, Alek Manoah is expected to return to action between August 1st and mid-August.

This is good news for the Blue Jays but at the same time it is hard to get too excited over since it is still a couple months away and there is a lot of baseball between then and now.
Hopefully the Blue Jays do not base too much on their trade deadline approach on Manoah's return because there might always some delays.
