Could this Blue Jay be the answer at third base?

Nowhere is this more evident then at third base. Both Ernie Clement and Will Wagner have struggled offensively at third in the part of the season. While their defence hasn't been bad by any means, it also hasn't been outstanding. If the Blue Jays were to explore other options, there is one player who could be a surprise choice: Davis Schneider.

While the man with the best moustache in baseball has mostly played 2B and LF, he did appear six times at third in 2023. Additionally, he has appeared sporadically at the hot corner throughout his minor league career.

Schneider has played third twice since his demotion to Triple-A Buffalo and it's something that both the Blue Jays and Bisons are at least considering.

There are other options too. Addison Barger is currently on the major league roster and has plenty of experience at third. But he feels like a likely candidate to be sent down upon the return of Daulton Varsho.

The Blue Jays are also seeing what Orelvis Martinez can do at third, but his stock has fallen slightly and his defensive development hasn't kept the pace with his offence.

There is also Leo Jimenez, but he projects more as a middle infielder and there doesn't appear to be much room for him on the roster at this point. This brings us back to Schneider.

Much like Clement and Wagner, the Babe has gotten off to an ugly start this season. But the Blue Jays know what he is capable of. If he can find his stroke again, it may be his ticket to being a major league third baseman. If not, it's a position that could be a revolving door all year long.
