Long-time MLB executive dead at 74

Jocketty was a fixture in MLB front offices for more than four decades, and was considered the architect of the Cardinals' 2006 World Series-winning team.
Jocketty's first job in baseball actually came with the
Athletics back in 1980, when he was hired as their director of minor league operations before into director of baseball administration. During his time his Oakland, he helped draft several key players and played an instrumental part in the 1989 World Series Championship.
He left Oakland to become General Manager of St. Louis and 1994 and was key figure in luring Tony LaRussa to manage the team. LaRussa had managed the A's during the bulk of Jocketty's tenure in Oakland.
Jocketty also brought in Mark McGwire and helped draft Franchise icons Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols.
After being let go by the Cardinals following the 2007 season, Jocketty latched on as a senior advisor with the Cincinnati Reds, being promoted to GM early in 2008.
During his time as GM, Cincinnati returned to their winning ways, and Jocketty once again on a veteran manager - Dusty Baker - and a homegrown star (Joey Vott)
He was eventually made President in 2015 before shifting back into an advisory role. He maintained that role through the 2024 season.
