John Schneider isn't ready for change, at least not yet. In a recent on the Blair and Barker, the Blue Jays manager was asked that given how George Springer is hitting, would he consider moving him back into the leadoff spot and pushing Bo Bichette to the cleanup position.
Schneider why he wasn't ready to make such a move.
If I'm gonna move George back into the leadoff spot, he ain't budging, ya know.
His remarks make sense. Players don't want to move around to vastly different spots too often early in the season. Yes, George has gone from fifth to fourth, but that is a lot different than going from fifth to first.
I know every gets caught up in the lineup, you know. I know it's a big topic around the game and with fans. Guys are hitting there once. .. then it lines up according to the game - John Schneider on lineup management
After a down year in 2024, many were quick to demand that Springer be moved from the leadoff spot. Schneider seemed to agree. And while Springer has arguably been the team's best hitter throughout the first month of the season, there is no reason to move him back to number one in the order. At least, not yet.
The idea of hitting Bo cleanup is also an interesting one. While he has good numbers in the four hole, he generally had
Vladmir Guerrero Jr. hitting directly in front of him. With
Anthony Santander on the team, that changes things.
Who knows, perhaps later in the year we'll see a Springer-Bo-Vladdy top three. But for now, everyone is staying put.
