The Toronto Blue Jays' offseason has come back down to earth.

Kyle Tucker is a Dodger. Bo Bichette is a Met. Cody Bellinger is back with the Yankees.
Toronto was connected to all three at various points, but when the numbers finally came in, the gap between interest and reality became impossible to ignore.
Tucker's deal with Los Angeles reset the scale entirely.
He'll earn $60 million per season, including a token $1 million salary in 2026 paired with a $64 million signing bonus.
With opt-outs after both 2028 and 2029 and only $30 million deferred, Tucker is positioned to make roughly $120 million in the first two years alone before re-entering free agency at the peak of his value.
It's an extraordinary contract for the player-and one that few organizations could reasonably match.
Bichette's move to the Mets followed a similar logic. The 27-year-old signed a three-year, $126 million contract that includes a $5 million buyout and an opt-out after the first season.
That structure allows Bichette to collect up to $47 million in 2026 and potentially hit the open market again immediately.
He secures financial protection, maintains flexibility, and joins a roster built to contend for a World Series right away.
From Bo's perspective, it's hard to imagine a better outcome.
Bellinger's return to the Yankees also underscores how aggressive the top of the market has become.
He signed a five-year, $162.6 million deal that pays him $85 million over the first two seasons, with an opt-out after year two. Just a year ago, Bellinger inked a three-year, $80 million contract with the Cubs, earning $60 million before opting out this winter.
If he opts out again after 2027, he'll have earned $145 million over four seasons. If not, he'll clear $205 million across seven years.
Either way, the structure heavily favors the player, and explains why The Blue Jays never truly had a seat at the table.
Losing out on Tucker and watching Bichette leave undeniably hurts. But it shouldn't overshadow the work the Blue Jays have already done this offseason.
Toronto added a legitimate frontline starter in Dylan Cease on a seven-year deal, brought in Kazuma Okamoto on a four-year contract to bolster the lineup, and reinforced the pitching staff with Tyler Rogers and Cody Ponce on three-year deals.

Blue Jays have room for additional moves, outfielder with offensive upside may be one of them

Looking ahead, the outfield remains the clearest area of need. Daulton Varsho and George Springer are both set to hit free agency after the season, with Springer expected to spend much of the year at designated hitter.
Anthony Santander remains under club control for four more years, but he likely absorbs many of the DH at-bats vacated by Springer if things break right.
Toronto will still have Davis Schneider, Nathan Lukes, Joey Loperfido, and potentially Myles Straw, who holds a team option-but none profiles as a long-term, everyday solution with offensive upside.
At this point, adding a future long-term outfielder with offensive upside will certainly require a trade.
After Tucker and Bellinger inked deals, the free agent outfield market is rather thin.
For that reason, the outfield trade market makes more sense for Toronto, both in the short term and beyond.
Even if no additional moves are made before Opening Day, the Blue Jays are positioned to be a serious factor in the American League.
