The Toronto Blue Jays latest off season moves have caused a shift on what some remaining positions players roles may be in 2026, Davis Schneider being one of them.

Toronto improved it's infield this offseason, highlighted by the acquisition of Kazuma Okamoto and the departure of longtime shortstop Bo Bichette.
With those changes in place and Schneider entering his fourth season with the organization, his role on a Blue Jays team aiming for another World Series run in 2026 remains somewhat uncertain.
Schneider proved valuable in a part-time utility role during the 2025 regular season, appearing in 82 games and posting a solid .234/.361/.436 slash line.
He contributed primarily at second base and left field, providing flexibility and quality at-bats off the bench.
His defining moment came in the postseason, when he launched a leadoff home run off Dodgers ace Blake Snell in Game 5 of the World Series, helping propel Toronto to a pivotal win.
Happy 27th birthday to the one and only Davis Schneider! 👨🏻

Let's celebrate with his leadoff first-pitch home run in Game 5 of the World Series 💥
Throughout the playoffs, Schneider platooned in left field with Nathan Lukes, starting five games overall-four of them against left-handed pitching.
While Schneider received those starts versus southpaws, hitting left-handed pitching has not traditionally been a strength of his game.
In fact, he was far more productive against right-handers during the 2025 season, recording a .915 OPS in 99 plate appearances, compared to a .708 OPS in 128 plate appearances against lefties.

Blue Jays likely to use Schneider in a bat-first utility role in 2026

Schneider's greatest asset remains his plate discipline. He walked at an impressive 15.9% rate in 2025, making him a consistently difficult out and a strong on-base presence when inserted into the lineup.
He profiles as an ideal fill-in should injuries arise, capable of handling an extended stretch of starts if needed.
However, barring an injury to a regular starter, his playing time may continue to fluctuate throughout the season.
The most likely outcome for Schneider in 2026 is a bat-first utility role, splitting time between second base and left field and appearing in roughly 70-80 games once again.
While his speed and defense are average, his patience and on-base skills give him real value, and with more consistent opportunities, he has the potential to be a productive contributor for the Blue Jays.
