Former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher and Victoria BC native Steve Sinclair will be inducted into the Oak Bay Sports Hall of Fame in February.

According to a report from Tony Trozzo, Oak Bay High School will celebrate a new group of athletic excellence on February 21, when 19 individuals are inducted into its Sports Hall of Fame.
The Class of 2026 will see their names added to the Hall of Fame wall that lines the school's hallways, joining 86 honorees already enshrined.
«I'm incredibly proud to recognize such outstanding athletes and coaches in the Oak Bay High Sports Hall of Fame,» said athletic director Richard Fast. «By celebrating those who came before us, we hope to inspire both current and future generations.»

Fast serves on the Hall of Fame selection committee alongside seven other members.

Among this year's inductees is former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Steve Sinclair, who becomes the first professional baseball player ever inducted into the Oak Bay High Sports Hall of Fame.
Sinclair, a left-hander, was selected by the Blue Jays in the 28th round of the 1991 MLB Draft-news he didn't receive firsthand.
«My mom got the call while I wasn't home,» Sinclair recalled. «She wrote everything down on a piece of paper. When I got back, she handed it to me and said, 'You need to call this guy. You got drafted by the Blue Jays.' I had no idea.»

Just two days later, Sinclair boarded a flight to Florida to begin his professional baseball journey, one that would eventually lead him to the Major Leagues.
He made his MLB debut on April 25, 1998, with Toronto.
«I walked Robin Ventura on four straight pitches,» Sinclair said with a laugh. «Then I struck out Wil Cordero.»

Sinclair went on to pitch two Major League seasons with Toronto and Seattle, appearing in 45 games as a left-handed specialist.
In 1999, the Blue Jays traded the lifelong Victoria resident to the Mariners in exchange for first baseman David Segui.
Oak Bay High School stands as one of British Columbia's most accomplished athletic programs, boasting 102 provincial championships and 347 Island titles across all sports.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday, February 21, from 6:30 to 11 p.m.
