This marks only the fifth time since the best-of-seven format for the LCS was introduced that one team has advanced on a sweep, while their opponent has gone seven games.
History favors the Blue Jays in the World Series
The very first time it happened was in 1988 involving the very same Dodgers who defeated the
New York Mets in seven games on route to the World Series, while their opponents - the
Oakland A's - swept the
Red Sox in four. That legendary series was won by Los Angeles.
The other three series had the same results, the team that won the LCS in seven games went on to win the series.
Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series sixth of its kind
While it's a small sample size, certainly not big enough to draw anything from, it is an interesting footnote in this David vs. Goliath battle.
Meanwhile the Dodgers are looking to become the first team in 25 years to repeat as champions. Might that be another point in the Blue Jays favour.
History will tell the story.
