Bichette is not in the team's starting nine for Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers with what manager John Schneider called "a little lower back tightness," according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
Schneider also told reporters that Toronto is trying to keep Bichette off his feet, which is why he served as the team's designated hitter on Tuesday.
The skipper said that he has been feeling better, but the team is trying to be "extra careful."
However, the 27-year-old could be available off the bench in Texas, depending on how he feels.
Bichette is hitting .270/.319/.391 with four homers over 54 games this season.
Without their leadoff hitter and starting shortstop, the Blue Jays are running out a different look at the top of their lineup.
Daulton Varsho will handle the leadoff duties, and Anthony Santander will slide up into the No. 2 spot. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will hit third for the first time this season as part of the shake-up.
In Bichette's absence, Ernie Clement will play his second straight game at short.
In addition to Bichette's injury, Schneider provided an update on reliever Erik Swanson and second baseman Andrés Giménez.
Swanson will make one more rehab appearance at triple-A Buffalo on Thursday before he rejoins the Blue Jays to discuss next steps. Giménez, meanwhile, will begin a rehab stint with low-A Dunedin on Wednesday.
