Swanson, who has been dealing with a forearm issue since the Spring, threw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Manager John Schneider said it went well. There is still no timetable for Swanson's return but he appears to be progressing nicely.
Ryan Burr, out with a shoulder injury, is a little further behind, but is scheduled to throw a bullpen session later this week. There is also no timetable for his return. His status is complicated due to the fact that he is out options meaning that if the Blue Jays were to activate him they would either have to put him on the big league roster or expose him to waivers.
Daulton Varsho is also progressing, though not as quickly as the Blue Jays would like. While Varsho has been throwing from about 150-165 feet, he has yet to throw from the outfield. He will throw to bases later in the week and the Jays would love to get him at a distance of 180-200 before activating him.
Varsho hit a ton in Spring Training, but his throwing arm was always going to be the issue as he works his way from offseason rotator cuff surgery.
While not mentioned on air, Mae did mention Max Scherzer on X, saying that he played catch for the second straight day. The timetable for him is also unknown, though Schneider mentioned there hasn't been any change and Scherzer is still feeling tenderness in his thumb for his cortisone shot.
Varsho appears to be the closest, followed by Swanson, but no announcements have been made.
