The Toronto Blue Jays helped replenish their farm system with the next wave of talented international free agent signings in 2026.

The Toronto Blue Jays have already made notable investments in their long-term outlook this offseason, highlighted by additions such as Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers, and Kazuma Okamoto.
But the organization’s commitment to the future extended beyond the Major League roster with a significant move at the opening of the 2026 international signing period.
International talent—particularly players developed in the Dominican Republic—has long been a foundation of the Blue Jays’ success, and the club is hopeful it has secured another impactful piece in outfielder Michael Mesa.
Ranked No. 30 overall in his international class By MLB Pipeline, the left-handed-hitting Mesa has stood out while training in San Cristóbal under renowned instructor Jaime Ramos, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Mesa’s swing features a clean bat path with natural loft, allowing him to generate consistent hard contact from the left side of the plate.
Evaluators believe that as Mesa continues to refine his approach, his swing could unlock additional extra-base power. A left-handed thrower, he projects as a long-term outfielder.
Michael Mesa stood out early in the scouting process for his offensive upside.

While he may eventually shift away from center field as his frame matures, Mesa is widely regarded as a diligent worker who maximizes his tools and fits the mold of a well-rounded athlete.
Though not an elite base-stealer, Mesa moves well once underway and shows the potential to develop into a 20/20 contributor at the Major League level if his development stays on track.

Toronto' next wave of international free agents poised to impact Blue Jays for years to come

Toronto also reached agreements with catcher Juan Caricote, who trains at Academia Prospectos CF in Valencia, Venezuela, and with Carlos Figueroa, another participant in MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program.
Caricote, a left-handed-hitting catcher who reportedly received a $1,847,500 signing bonus, narrowly missed a Top 50 ranking in this year’s international class and has drawn strong praise for his defensive abilities and overall makeup.
Recent international classes have yielded encouraging results for the Blue Jays. Infielder Juan Sanchez (No. 18 prospect, 2025) and right-hander Silvano Hechavarria (No. 25, 2024) impressed in the Dominican Summer League and have since earned spots on the organization’s Top 30 Prospects list.
Meanwhile, three of Toronto’s top five prospects—JoJo Parker, Arjun Nimmala, and Johnny King—have yet to reach the upper Minors but possess considerable upside.
Alongside Mesa, Caricote, and others from this latest international class, they could form the next wave of talent poised to impact the Blue Jays in the years ahead.
