Jose Urena travelling with Blue Jays on West Coast trip

After agreeing to an MLB deal with right-hander Jose Urena on Saturday, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reported Sunday that the 33-year-old was in Toronto's clubhouse and will travel with the team to Anaheim.

Toronto has not officially announced the deal, which was pending a physical on Saturday.

Ureña, 33, pitched to a 3.80 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 109.0 innings, including 70 strikeouts and 39 walks, with the Texas Rangers in 2024.

He made 33 appearances with the Rangers, including starting nine games and finishing eight.

The right-handed swingman made a single appearance for the New York Mets this season - three innings to finish a blowout in which he allowed two homers and five earned runs - before being designated for assignment on April 29.

According to StatMuse Baseball, Ureña became the third pitcher in MLB history to give up seven hits, five earned runs and two home runs in 3.0 innings and still record a save. Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jerome Williams was the last to achieve the odd feat, doing so on July 30, 2012.

Minnesota Twins righty Dave Goltz established the club on June 6, 1973.

Ureña has a career 4.80 ERA and 1.41 WHIP over 11 seasons split between the Miami Marlins, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, Rangers and Mets.

The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native will serve as depth for a Blue Jays staff that has been depleted by injuries to starter Max Scherzer and relievers Nick Sandlin, Erik Swanson and Ryan Burr.

Toronto begins a six-game road trip on Tuesday, which starts with three games against the Los Angeles Angels, followed by a series with the Seattle Mariners.
