A recent article on MLB.com looked at potential Gold Glove winners for the 2025 season; three Toronto players were among those listed.
While Kirk made it to the big leagues on the basis of being an offensive-first catcher, the two-time All-Star has made great strides behind the plate in the couple of seasons.
He's renown and praise as an elite pitch framer and blocker. For the former, he is in the 98th percentile, while he is the 100th percentile for the latter. His Fielding Run Value (FRV) of +19 is easily tops in the league.
Andres Gimenez has won three consecutive Gold Gloves, so it's hardly a surprise that he is listed here. Since the beginning of 2022, no one player has more than Gimenez' 62 Outs Against Average (OAA). His 11 this season has him ranked in the 97th percentile. While he missed a chunk of time with an ankle injury, he should be the odds-on-favourite to claim his fourth in a row.
Seeing France's name here may come as a surprise to some, especially considering he has been a historically weak defender. In his first six seasons he had accumulated negative OAA. However, after pledging to turn his defence around this spring, he's delivered. His +10 OAA lead all first baseman. While he has to be considered a favourite, getting traded halfway through the season and not being an everyday player may hurt his chances.
