Latest MLB rankings puts Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk in upper echelon of elite catchers

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk is climbing the ranks among baseball’s elite after a standout 2025 campaign that earned him a spot near the top of MLB’s latest Top 10 catchers poll.
Now entering his seventh Major League season, Kirk has already built an impressive résumé.
Over six years and 564 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, he owns a career slash line of .268/.345/.398 with a .743 OPS, along with 51 home runs and 263 RBIs.
His accomplishments include two All-Star selections and a Silver Slugger Award.
A native of Tijuana, Mexico, Alejandro Kirk signed with the Blue Jays as an international free agent and made his MLB debut in 2020.
At just 27 years old, the veteran backstop delivered the best season of his career in 2025, playing a pivotal role in Toronto’s first World Series appearance in more than 30 years.
During the regular season, Kirk appeared in 130 games and posted career highs across the board, batting .282 with a .769 OPS, 15 home runs, and 76 RBIs.

Kirk started all 18 of the Blue Jays’ playoff games behind the plate, hitting .254/.349/.493 with an .842 OPS.
He added five home runs and drove in 13 runs during Toronto’s deep October run.

On Monday, MLB released its fan-voted Top 10 catchers heading into the 2026 season, and Kirk was ranked third overall at his position.
He finished behind Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and Los Angeles Dodgers star Will Smith.
“The fans have spoken, Cal Raleigh is your No. 1 catcher in 2026!” MLB wrote in its announcement.
Kirk’s strong showing follows another recent recognition, as MLB Network’s ranking system, The Shredder, placed him fifth among catchers entering the 2026 season.
The upcoming year will also mark the beginning of Kirk’s new five-year, $58 million contract extension with Toronto.
With pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training in Clearwater, Florida, on Feb. 11, Kirk and the Blue Jays will open Grapefruit League play on Feb. 21 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
