Major League Baseball announced today that Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. Mike Rodriguez was the first to report the news.

Profrar tested positive for the drug Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG). According to baseball insiderJon Heyman hCG is a masking agent used to restart natural testosterone production after a steroid cycle.
At one point during the offseason, the Blue Jays were thought to be targeting Profar, who would've filled a void for them in the outfield. He ultimately signed a three year, $42MM deal with Atlanta.
Profrar will not be paid during his suspension. While he is eligible to return during the regular season, he will not be able to play during the post-season, should the Braves make it to October baseball.
Both the Braves and Profar released separate statements.
"This is especially painful for me because anyone who knows me and has seen me play knows I am deeply passionate about the game. There is nothing I love more than competing with my teammates and being a fan favourite." - Jurickson Profrar -

The 2024 All-Star also noted that he was tested eight times last season for PEDs and that all his tests turned up negative.
The Blue Jays had their own brush with PEDs last year when Orelvis Martinez was suspended after testing positive for Clomephine.
Profrar's suspension further hurts a Braves team, who are off to an 0-4 start after being swept by the Padres.
