2nd half of the 2025 season The Mets have announced that they have signed Richard Lovelady to a one-year, major league contract. Lovelady had a 6.30 ERA in eight appearances with the Mets last season.
Lovelady opened the year with the
Toronto Blue Jays, appearing in two games. He struggled to a 21.60 ERA, allowing four runs in just 1.2 innings. Shortly after his second appearance, he was designated for assignment and eventually signed a minor league deal with the
Minnesota Twins.
While he showed promise in 19 appearances for Triple-A St. Paul, he ultimately decided to opt-out of his contract, hoping for another shot at the majors.
The Mets came calling on June 23rd.
Lovelady requested to be known as Dicky rather than Richard
Upon signing a one-year, major league contract with the Mets, the 30 year-old stated that he wished to be known as Dicky Lovelady, an admission that caused many humorous reactions online.
His time with the Mets was mixed and he was up-and-down most of the year, having his contract selected on three separate occasions, each new signing coming after being DFA'd.
At the end of the season, he elected free agency after clearing waivers.
Clearly, the Mets like Lovelady enough to take another chance on him.
For his career Lovelady is 5-13 with a 5.35 ERA and three saves.
