The
Minnesota Twins outrighted right-hander Hatch, and hard-throwing lefty Cabrera on Thursday. Both went unclaimed on waivers and entered free agency.
Thomas Hatch has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
Hatch has managed decent results till he came to the Twins, working to a 4.22 earned run average across 91 2/3 innings.
His 20.1% strikeout rate is a little below average, but he's getting grounders at a 53% clip while showing solid control.
Hatch has a five-pitch mix and sits around 93 MPH with both his sinker and four-seam fastball while working as a starter.
He was able to push that into the 94-95 range in his lone MLB appearance in short relief.
Hatch has now pitched in parts of five big league seasons, combining for a 5.14 ERA across 70 innings.
He had a brief stint in Japan last year and would have pitched this season with the Doosan Bears in Korea had the team not flagged something in his physical.
He pitched 34 innings with an ERA near 6.00 for the Twins in 2025 and now has a 5.24 earned run average in 103 frames at the MLB level.
Genesis Cabrera has cleared waivers and elected free agency.
Cabrera, 28, signed with the Rays out of the Dominican Republic and made his pro debut back in 2014.
His MLB debut came as a member of the Cardinals in 2019. After a middling start to his career as a swingman, he moved into a pure relief role and turned in solid results over the next few seasons with a 3.81 ERA and 4.53 FIP in 255 1/3 innings of work from 2020 to 2024 with St. Louis and Toronto.
After pitching to a 3.59 ERA and 5.13 FIP in 69 appearances for Toronto last year, he reached free agency for the first time in his career.
Upon arriving in free agency, Cabrera signed in Queens on a minor league deal. He's bounced between a handful of MLB clubs this year, pitching for the Mets, Cubs, and Pirates at various points this season.
He's not pitched especially well in those outings, with a 5.79 ERA and 5.65 FIP across 28 innings of work.
Cabrera nearly tied a major league record this year, pitching for four teams in one season.
He's a hard-throwing, command-challenged lefty reliever who's bounced all over the league since 2019 and has a career 4.24 ERA with an 11% walk rate.
Both Hatch and Cabrera will be candidates for minor league deals this winter.
