The Toronto Blue Jays have pitching at the top of their offseason to-do-list going forward.

Even though the Blue Jays are working to finalize their $210-million, seven-year agreement with Dylan Cease that's pending a physical, their top priority is to improve their pitching staff before anything else.
In 2025, their Competitive Balance Tax payroll was an estimated $280 million, per Spotrac, while their 2026 number is currently projecting at roughly $266 million, which includes Cease but not the one thing they are sure to do this winter is to add more pitching.
Sportsnet's Shi Davidi joined the Foul Territory Podcast on Monday to discuss a number of topics, the first being financial constraints the Blue Jays may or may not have following the large commitment to Cease.
"I think that the money is there, and the ability and opportunity is right. The way that is been explained to me and the way the Blue Jays have spoken about it on multiple occasions, when there's a business case to be made, if they can justify it, then they can go do it. So this doesn't rule them out of anything else that they want to do this offseason. If anything this just gives them more opportunity, because now the major thing on the to-do list is gone. So now they are just looking in other areas. I think they're looking at ways to chase wins right now. Asking themselves...where are you going to get the most wins from your roster at this point?"

Another leverage arm, a swing-man type or even another starter are on the to-do-list

Davidi also discussed the Blue Jays needs this offseason in order of importance following the Cease deal.
"The next one for them is probably be a leverage reliever. You can't have enough bullpen, everything we see in the postseason and how much they value it, that's going to be the next area of focus. Then they're also going to look to add a bat, ideally an infielder and obviously Bo Bichette fits into that range, but again because of the lineup flexibility, they can persue an outfielder if they wanted. And finally I think they're going to just keep on adding pitching. They can be creative in a number of different ways, you can just never have enough pitching. Can they add a swingman? Can they add two relievers? Do they maybe go out and find anther starter? There are ways they can still build on their pitching, and I think thats what they still want to do".
As is their way, the Blue Jays have engaged across all segments of the pitching market in search of the best fit or fits.
