An Atlanta Braves reporter has gone viral. During Monday night's matchup between the Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays, sideline reporter Wiley Ballard became the talk of the league for getting a fan's number live on air.
Ballard, a Braves reporter for FanDuel, was roaming the stands during the game when he came upon two female fans sitting in the Corona rooftop patio. Egged on by his mates in the broadcast booth, Ballard inquired about a phone number.
«OK, Wiley. You got five innings, four innings, to get the numbers.»
Ballard then approached Kayla, one of the fans, and explained the situation. Kayla, who just wanted to watch the game, couldn't believe that this was happening to her in real time.
Ballard tried to play it off.
«I might use that in the future, that's actually a pretty good move.
Of course, not everybody was on Ballard's side, with fans calling out his cringeworthy tactics.
«If a woman covering a game started hitting on fans & asking for their numbers on TV they would be crucified on the internet & fired. For the record, it's unprofessional for anyone to do this. You're there to report on a baseball game, sure you want to have fun, but you can't come up with any other reports than wandering around asking women for numbers- Kylen Mills
While Ballard may have thought it was a bold move, there was also a distinct possibility that Kayla felt very uncomfortable.
No word yet if they have texted each other. Stay tuned.
