Max Scherzer is dealing with a sore thumb and will be held back from his scheduled start on Thursday. Easton Lucas will start in his place.
The Blue Jays made the announcement late on Tuesday afternoon.
While a sore thumb may not seem like a big deal, Scherzer was limited to nine starts last year as he dealt with a nerve issue that from his thumb all the way to his triceps.
The Blue Jays are being cautious as they want to make sure it is not a recurrence of the same injury.

Scherzer has looked strong this spring, striking out 14 in nine innings over three appearances, while compiling a 2.00 ERA.
Both the Blue Jays and Scherzer are confident that the injury is not serious and that Scherzer will be on track to start the season.
In his place, the Blue Jays will turn to Easton Lucas, who has suddenly become a valuable starting depth piece for Toronto as they continue to stretch him out.
