Rangers transactions for Wednesday:
-OF Wyatt Langford placed on 10-day Injured List (left oblique strain)
-OF Billy McKinney (#33) contract selected from Round Rock (AAA)
-OF Sam Haggerty transferred from 10-day to 60-day Injured List
At the time, he cleared waivers and elected free agency, only to re-sign with the Rangers the following day. Now, he is back on the active roster.
He takes the place of fellow outfielder
Wyatt Langford, who has been placed on the IL with a left oblique strain, while
Sam Haggerty has been transferred to the 60 Day IL to make room on the 40-man.
In his first stint with Texas, McKinney went 1-7 with a walk and a strikeout in two games.
Struggled to replicate success since leaving Toronto
Acquired from the
New York Yankees in 2018 as a part of a trade for
J.A. Happ, McKinney arguably had his best season in the majors while playing for Toronto in 2019. While his average that year was a meagre .215, he hit 12 home runs.
However, since being DFA'd by the Blue Jays at the end of 2020, he has bounced around to seven different teams, including a return to the Yankees and two separate stints with the
New York Mets.
McKinney has always played well in the minor leagues, but hasn't been to translate that success at the major league level. While a capable outfielder who can play left, centre, and right, his offence has always been below average.
However, he will now get a chance to prove himself in the final week of the season.
