Even after their 20-1 drubbing at the hands of the Kansas City Royals on Friday, the Blue Jays magic number for clinching a playoff spot is down to one.

Thanks to a Detroit Tigers loss against the Atlanta Braves earlier on Saturday, all the Blue Jays need to do is win.

They can't seem to do that.

With a 2-1 loss to the Royals on Saturday night, the Blue Jays have now lost four in a row. That magic victory still eludes them.

But what is a magic number? For the Blue Jays, the magic number is a win, combined with opponents losses.

With their magic number down to one this means that either a Blue Jays win or a loss by the Tigers, Red Sox, or Guardians.

The Blue Jays also have the American League East in their sites. To clinch the division, the magi number is five.

Going 5-3 will not clinch the east, but also give them the best record in the American League. The New York Yankees, three games behind the Jays, have to win all their remaining games.

The Blue Jays' fate is firmly in their own hands.
