Toronto Blue Jays acquire top International Free Agent for record breaking signing bonus

According to Spanish MLB Insider Hector Gomez, Montas, a 14 year old infielder/outfielder from the Dominican Republic has a verbal agreement with the Blue Jays on a monster $5.7 million dollar signing bonus, which is the largest ever handed out in the history of the International market, especially to a 14 year old.

To put this into perspective, Alex Anthopolous had a verbal agreement with Vladimir Guerrero Jr as a 15-year old for $3.9 million and then signed him officially when he was 16 years of age.

You can bet that Ross Atkins will do the same with Angel Montas in a couple of years.

The reason for these verbal agreements is, under international rules they cannot put pen to paper until they're 16 years old.

There is literally no current MLB player whose youth-tool metrics mirror Montas's at his age.

Typical max exit velo for this age group is 56-65 mph, with middle‐school «elite» performances pushing into the 70s. Given that, Montas's 102 mph exit velo is off the charts.

There is not a whole lot known about Montas because of his young age other than he plays the infield and outfield, is best in class for 2028, is currently 14 years old, stands at 6'4, 220lbs and bats left with a very impressive hit tool.

The Blue Jays still have two more years before they can officially sign Montas, however this verbal agreement and a boatload of cash is how you land this young potential superstar.
