Toronto Blue Jays announce 2026 player-development staff

The Toronto Blue Jays announced their 2026 player development staff on Thursday, officially locking in their leadership group for the upcoming season.

According to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, the Toronto Blue Jays have finalized its full player development and minor-league coaching structure for 2026, solidifying the group that will oversee the growth of the club’s top prospects.
Blue Jays unveil their 2026 player-development staff. Casey Candaele (Buffalo), John Tamargo Jr. (New Hampshire), Jose Mayorga (Vancouver) and Ryan Casteel (Dunedin) will manage the affiliates.

Joe Sclafani will continue to head the department as Director of Player Development

Supporting him in key leadership roles are Charlie Wilson (Director of Minor League Operations), Brent Lavallee (Director of Position Player Development), Justin Lehr (Director of Pitching), and Craig Parry (Director of Hitting).
Reed Kienle remains in place as Assistant Director of Player Development, while Lukas Ray will serve as Minor League Field Coordinator.
Additional coordinators include Ricky Meinhold as Pitching Development Coordinator, Donnie Murphy as Infield Coordinator, and Jacob McGuiggan as Outfield and Baserunning Coordinator.
At the affiliate level, the Blue Jays’ managerial assignments for 2026 are as follows: Casey Candaele will manage Triple-A Buffalo, John Tamargo Jr. takes the helm at Double-A New Hampshire, Jose Mayorga leads High-A Vancouver, and Ryan Casteel will manage Single-A Dunedin.
The organization will also lean on the experience of several former Major League players serving as Special Assistants to Player Development, including Edwin Encarnacion, Pat Hentgen, Paul Quantrill, Tim Raines, and Devon White.
Meanwhile, Eric Duncan has earned a promotion to Major League Field Coordinator for the 2026 season after previously serving as Director of Position Player Development.
Lavallee steps into Duncan’s former position as part of the reshuffling.
