Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer has had an array of injuries so far this season which has been frustrating for him, the team, and the fans.
Scherzer has pitched a total of three innings so far this year which is really not much when thinking about the $15.5 million that the Blue Jays are paying him for the season.
Blue Jays announce update on Max Scherzer's return
According to the latest reports, Scherzer is expected to rejoin the Blue Jays in Texas.
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer will throw bullpens on Saturday and Monday near his home in Jupiter, Fla., as he continues to work his way back from a right thumb injury, reports Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. -TSN
If everything continues to go well for Scherzer, he will be facing live hitters once he rejoins the team which would be the final step in his recovery process before returning to the Blue Jays lineup.
Max Scherzer will throw bullpens Saturday and Monday near his home in Jupiter, Florida, then rejoin the #BlueJays in Texas.
If those go well, it feels like that should put Scherzer close to facing live hitters again, which will be the final stage before a rehab assignment.
If the Blue Jays are finally able to get Scherzer back in the coming weeks it will be huge for the starting rotation which has been juggling pitchers ever since Scherzer went down.
The only problematic part in all of this is that Scherzer's injury is far from 100% which means there is a good chance that he re-aggravates it and ends up back on the injured list.
Hopefully things continue to go well even when he returns but it seems unlikely at this point.
