Toronto Blue Jays claim former infielder off of waivers from Pittsburgh Pirates

The Toronto Blue Jays claimed utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources tell ESPN. Kiner-Falefa spent 2024 with the Blue Jays before being traded to the Pirates on July 30.

Kiner-Falefa, 30, spent the first half of the 2024 season with the Blue Jays before being dealt to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline for minor-league infielder Charles McAdoo.
Now, he comes back to Toronto after the Pirates parted with him via outright waivers on Saturday.
By claiming him now, Kiner-Falefa will be eligible for the Blue Jays' post-season roster.
In 119 games this season, the Honolulu native is slashing .264/.300/.332 with one home run and 35 RBIs. He also has 15 stolen bases while making appearances at shortstop and third base.
Kiner-Falefa hit .292 with seven home runs in 83 games during his stint with the Blue Jays last season.
Toronto can add one pitcher and one hitter to its roster as of Sept. 1.
