The Toronto Blue Jays have decided to release young outfield prospect Railin Tejada.

According to the club's official transaction log, the Toronto Blue Jays parted ways this week with 20-year-old outfielder Railin Tejada, a move that highlights the unforgiving nature of life in the minor leagues.
Tejada once represented a significant investment for the organization. He was a standout signing from the Blue Jays' 2022 international class, landing a $600,000 bonus that suggested long-term belief in his upside.
That level of commitment often comes with patience, but performance ultimately dictates opportunity. In Tejada's case, the results never caught up to the expectations.
He spent the entirety of the 2024 season in the Florida Complex League, where production was hard to come by.
Across 30 games, Tejada posted a .151/.330/.192 slash line and failed to record a single home run.
While his on-base percentage indicated a willingness to work counts and draw walks, there was virtually no offensive impact. For a corner outfielder, a .192 slugging percentage is simply untenable.
Injuries only compounded the issue. Tejada spent nearly all of the 2025 season on the 60-day injured list, halting any chance of meaningful development or a late surge to change his outlook.

By the time Tejada was activated in November, the Blue Jays' decision was inevitable

The release opens roster space as the Blue Jays prepare for a new influx of prospects this spring. In the minor leagues, turnover is constant, and opportunities are fleeting.
Still, Tejada's baseball journey may not be over. At just 20 years old, he's young enough to draw interest elsewhere, likely on a low-risk minor league deal.
Clubs routinely take chances on former high-profile international signees whose progress was derailed by injuries.
For Tejada, the next step will be proving that the power and promise that once made him a coveted prospect haven't disappeared for good.
