The Toronto Blue Jays are having issues when it comes to hits and scoring runs this year, which they're hoping Alejandro Kirk can help with.
The Blue Jays have have been inconsist across the lineup but when it comes to hits, the biggest problem is that players that are expected to produce like Anthony Santander simply are not.
Blue Jays expecting much more out of Alejandro Kirk
The Blue Jays biggest additions of the off-season were Anthony Santander and Andres Gimenez who are both dealing with injury issues as well as problems offensively when they do play.
Their big offseason acquisitions, second baseman Andres Gimenez and designated hitter Anthony Santander, have not had the kind of impact the team was hoping for. They are contributing to a lot of the struggles, unable to find their groove yet. -Teape
Kirk has been great at the plate for the Blue Jays this season as he is having one of his best years with a .282 batting average, .318 on base percentage to go along with a OPS+ of 96.
Through 39 games and 151 plate appearances, the 26-year-old backstop has a .282/.318/.373 slash line. His OPS+ of 96 is slightly below the league average, but it is the highest he has recorded since 2022, when he had a 127, made the American League All-Star Team and won the Silver Slugger Award. -Teape
These are some solid stats from Kirk but at the same time if they truly plan on getting better offensively they will need a lot more from their lineup than expecting their catcher to deliver day in day out.
At the end of the day, if Toronto wants to see more production, they need players like Anthony Santander, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette and Andres Gimenez to deliver on a more consistant basis.
