The Blue Jays cannot seem to get Bowden Francis back on track this season which is why they need to find a solution because if they make the playoffs, having Francis on the mound will results in a guaranteed loss.
Blue Jays have serious interest in Miami Marlins staring pitcher Sandy Alcantara
The Blue Jays seem to be in the market for a starting pitcher which is clearly what they need most right now as the trade deadline approaches rapidly.
According to reports, there could be serious interest in Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara as Miami are definitely going to be sellers at the deadline which is where the Blue Jays come in.
Since he is expensive and is having a down season, Toronto may be able to get away with acquiring a former Cy Young winner for a cheap prospect package.
Former MLB manager Jim Bowden believes that the Blue Jays do not have a shot at landing him since the Marlins won't trade Alcantara until his value goes back up since it is at an all-time low right now with a 7.14 ERA.
MLB Insider Jim Bowden does not think the Marlins will trade Alcantara because of his cold start, stating, "Don't expect the Marlins to trade Sandy Alcantara (7.14 ERA over 13 starts) while his value is down.
Even if the Marlins are willing to trade him, it does not make much sense for the Blue Jays to take the risk in acquiring Alcantara when they need to find a reliable starting pitcher.
Of course if Alcantara returns to his Cy Young form, this would be a great move for the Blue Jays but with an ERA over 7.00 right now, he is basically as bad if not worse than Bowden Francis.
