The Toronto Blue Jays are taking a careful approach with rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage as he prepares for the 2026 season, gradually building up his workload during Spring Training.

With Opening Day approaching, the Toronto Blue Jays continue working to get its pitching staff fully prepared for the regular season.
Before Tuesday's spring matchup with the Atlanta Braves, Blue Jays manager John Schneider shared an update on Trey Yesavage's progress.
According to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com, Yesavage has not yet appeared in a game this spring. Instead, the 22-year-old is scheduled to throw a two-inning simulated game against minor-league hitters on Wednesday.
Trey Yesavage will pitch in a Minor League game tomorrow at the #BlueJays' complex, John Schneider says. Plan is for two innings, which could leave time for two more «starts» in camp. Whether those happen in Minor League games or the «real» ones, TBD.

Blue Jays easing Yesavage into what will be his first full season in the majors

The young pitcher rose rapidly during his rookie campaign, jumping from Single-A Dunedin to logging 139.2 total innings in MLB, including 27.2 innings during the Blue Jays' postseason run.
For now, the team has not scheduled him to pitch in official Spring Training games, though he continues to build toward a potential appearance in Grapefruit League play later this spring.
The organization has emphasized throughout camp that it intends to monitor Yesavage's workload closely in 2026.
Last season, he threw a combined 105.2 innings across the minors, the final stretch of the MLB regular season, and the playoffs.
Despite the limited sample size in the majors, Yesavage impressed.
He posted a 3.21 ERA in three regular-season appearances, then followed that up with a 3.58 ERA across six postseason outings.
