Mad Max isn't ready to say goodbye to major league baseball just yet.

Less than 24 hours after their heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series, the starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays revealed that he plans to pitch again in 2026.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer gave a brief statement on his future

«The only thing I can say is it's going to take some time to give a full answer to that but there is no way that was my last pitch.»
Whether or not that is with the Blue Jays remains to be seen. He signed a one year, $15.5MM deal last offseason, a number that figures to be around his ceiling this time around as well.
What's next for Max Scherzer? MLB Tonight discussed the 3x Cy Young winner after his solid outing in Game 7.
One of the greatest pitchers of all time. And he was a Toronto Blue Jay. Thank you, Max Scherzer.
While he did struggle with a right thumb injury for much of the year and had an awful September, he was a valuable contributor to the Jays postseason run.
His 4.26 ERA puts him right in-line to be a mid-rotation starter. While his 12.4% barrel rate is a cause for concern, his 16.5K-BB% was decent enough.
While Toronto will likely engage in talks with Scherzer, especially due to Chris Bassitt and Shane Bieber also becoming free agents, several other teams could make a play for his services.
After game seven the Blue Jays clubhouse was filled with raw emotion. Guys were in tears, including Max Scherzer who spoke about the Jays in between wiping his eyes:
"I'm 41 years old and I never thought I could love baseball this much. My love for the game was so strong because their love for the game."

Scherzer will want to play for a competitor, perhaps giving Blue Jays an edge

The Blue Jays could still have the edge though. Scherzer will likely want to play for a competitive team, giving him another chance at one last ring or championship trophy.
Still, he will be 42 next summer and it remains to be seen how much his age will be a factor. Still if Justin Justin Verlander can get a contract, so too can Max Scherzer.
