After Kevin Gausman went 5.2 innings in Game 1 on Saturday, Yesavage pitched the equivalent of hold my beer.
After striking out three batters in the top of the first, the Blue Jays rookie - making his fourth big league start - ended up pitching 5.1 innings of no-hit ball with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
It's that latter number that set a record.
Sunday in Toronto, a star was born.
Story on Trey Yesavage and one of the greatest performances in #BlueJays playoff history:
His strikeout total set a new franchise record for most strike outs in a playoff game. The previous record was eight, held by Juan Guzman, David Price, and Dave Stieb.
Jays club five home runs, score 23 runs in two days
That wasn't the only record set on Sunday. The Blue Jays 23 runs over the first two games were the most the Yankees had given up in a two game span in postseason history.
Guerrero's slam was the Jays' first ever in the postseason.
The Yankees made things interesting by getting 10 hits and seven runs off the bullpen - manager John Schneider used eight different relievers - but Toronto managed to hang on for the win.
