When it comes to retirement,
Freddie Freeman has goals in mind.

The first baseman and likely future Hall of Famer is entering his age 36 season and has two years left on his Dodger contract. While retiring at 38 might seem reasonable for most people, Freddie Freeman isn't most people.
In a recent Spring Training interview, the Canadian-American has said he wants to retire at 40 and finish out his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That would mean signing another contract with LA upon the conclusion of his current one, which expires in 2027.

Freeman is a World Series icon

“I love being here. I’m from Southern California. I’ve had a great time with fans. You guys treat me great. Everyone’s treating my family good….I’m not worried about another contract, not going to bring it up, not going to talk about it. I got two years left. I’m just an employee. I just do my job, and if they want me back, they want me back. But I think Andrew [president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman] and everyone knows that I love being here.”

Now while the Dodgers could certainly afford to keep Freeman, having both 1st base and DH locked down for the next four years could present some positional challenges for future roster construction, especially when trying to give younger prospects some playing time.
But that's a problem for down the road.
Freeman is familiar to many fans of the Toronto Blue Jays, particularly for his heroics against them in Game 3 of the World Series.
Freeman hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning to give the Dodgers a 2-1 series lead and cementing his status as a World Series icon, following a similar feat in game one of the 2024 edition.
Whatever happens, we still have more Freddie to look forward to.
