Fan who fell from stands at PNC Park is improving, takes first steps since accident

Kavan Markwood, the young Pirates fan who fell from the stands onto the right field grass at PNC Park during Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs is awake and improving, according to a statement from his loved ones.
His girlfriend, Alana Brown, released a statement on social media.
[Kavan is] awake and continuing to work toward making his body stronger each day, At this time, he needs rest, peace, prayers, privacy, and all the positive thoughts and energy you can send as he continues on his journey. Please keep Kavan in your thoughts.»

GoFundMe page was also started for Markwood, and has raised more than $27,000 as of Saturday evening.
Markwood, 20, fell from the right field wall onto the field and was listed in critical condition. The game was stopped while medics and training staff from both clubs attended to him.
According to CNN, Markwood is a graduate of South Allegheny High School, and was MVP of the football team and received first team All-Conference honours.
The school also released a statement.
Kavan is best known for his resilience, strength, and kindness. He is a friend to all - someone who lifts others up and faces challenges with courage and grace.
His sister Taryn said that he has a long recovery ahead of him.

While there is no word yet on when he will be released from hospital, it is great to hear that Kavan is conscious and walking again.
