The Texas Rangers and New York Mets have completed the next big transaction of the 2025 offseason.

Late Sunday afternoon, MLB Insider Jeff Passan reported that the Rangers were finalizing a deal that would send All-star 2nd baseman Marcus Semien to the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo.
BREAKING: The New York Mets and Texas Rangers are finalizing a trade that would send second baseman Marcus Semien to the Mets and outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers, sources tell ESPN

Deal was contingent on Nimmo waving his no-trade clause

Fellow insider Jon Heyman then reported that Nimmo did indeed approve the trade, rendering the transaction complete.
Nimmo approved the trade, which is straight up deal
According to Heyman, the deal appears to be an attempt by the Mets to get more right-handed, as well as acquire better defence.
Semien was four years into a seven-year contract he signed with the Rangers prior to the 2022 season.
This came after his iconic 2021 season with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he broke the record for most home runs by a second baseman in a single season and finished third in the American League MVP voting.
He continued his success with the Rangers, being elected an All-Star in both 2023 and 2024, winning a World Series ring with the team in 2023.
Nimmo meanwhile, is one of the longest-serving members of the New York Mets, having made his major league debut with the team in 2016.
While he has surprisingly never been an All-Star, he does have 135 home runs and 463 RBIs while playing parts of ten seasons in Queens.
Nimmo had a full no-trade clause, meaning he could not be dealt without his consent. However, it appears that he has agreed to the move.
Now that the first big move has been made, the Hot Stove season and transaction wire will surely pick up steam.
