His infield mates - Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and Ernie Clement (who he knows previously from Cleveland) - immediately made contact with him upon news of his becoming a Blue Jay.
Like so many players throughout the league, Gimenez has stated that he loves playing in Toronto. He also expressed his like for the team's blue and white colours.
Gimenez, a three-time consecutive Gold Glove winner, and perhaps the best defensive 2nd baseman in the American League, is looking forward to taking grounders in spring training.
«I can't wait to start doing the double-play routines with Bo.» - Gimenez
One way he is doing that is working on chasing fewer pitches outside the zone. While it is often difficult to make adjustments mid-season, Gimenez has the whole winter and spring training ahead of him.
With improved hitting, he can become a more complete player.
"That's what I'm working on in the off-season right now, trying to (put) everything together mechanics-wise and (with) my approach. "I just try to be very consistent on everything," he said. "The entire game: hitting, running, stealing bases, defence. I'm trying (to) bring my game (up) to help my team win." - Gimenez (via interpreter Hector Lebron)
New Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins should help with that. If Gimenez can put up numbers like he did in 2022, when he hit .297. with 17 HRs and 69 RBIs, he will be that much more valuable to the Blue Jays.
Gimenez, who is still just 26, is signed through the 2029 season.
