Blue Jays on track for Golden Grapefruit

For several years the Golden Grapefruit has unofficially been awarded to the team with the best record at the end of the Grapefruit League season. With 11 games left - including the Spring Breakout - the Blue Jays are 12-6, 1.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox. Four teams are tied for third.

This would be the Blue Jays first Golden Grapefruit since 2012. They finished second in 2025, 2016, 2020, and 2021.

While Spring Training is about more than wins and losses and surface-level results, this team does feel exciting to watch, even with a certain distraction hanging over them.

The Blue Jays still have two games to play against the Phillies and once against the Pirates, who, as of this writing, are among the teams in a four-way tie for third place at 2.5 games back.

The Jays also have games against the Braves, Cardinals, Orioles, and Twins, all of whom are under .500. as well as the Rays and Yankees who currently have an even record.

That's a schedule that works in their favour.

Part of the reason for their success this pre-season is the well-roundedness of their approach. Their pitching has been strong, and they are hitting up a storm. If they keep doing what they are doing. There could be a Golden Grapefruit in their future.
