The Toronto Blue Jays may not be hitting home runs but there prospects sure are. Down in Vancouver, shortstop and top prospect Arjun Nimmala has homered in three straight games.

While the power is certainly a plus, he is also getting on a base a ton and becoming a more well-rounded hitter. The 20th overall pick in the 2023 draft has a .289/.349/.539 slash line. In his last seven games, Nimmala is 7-22 with three home runs and seven RBIs.
He has also reduced his strikeout rate from 31.8% to 21%.
His numbers are part of ongoing power in the Blue Jays minor leagues. Yeuri Munoz now has five homeruns, and Jay Harry has absolutely raked since his promotion to Double-A. If Nimmala keeps on hitting the Blue Jays may have no choice but to move him up to Double-A.
Nimmala is only 19 and there is not necessarily a big push to rush him through the system. However his numbers, combined with the uncertainty surrounding Bo Bichette's future, could make him a big-leaguer before too long.
While Nimmala has always been a strong hitter, many would probably be surprised to learn that he has 60-grade power.
Power is graded on a 20-80 scale. The low end would be a player like Myles Straw. Freddie Freeman sits around 70 whereas Shohei Ohtani tops the ranks at 80. Nimmala is rated as above average plus. Not bad for a 19 year old shortstop.
Of course, prospects are prospects until they are not, and homering in three straight doesn't necessarily indicate future success, in the minors or the majors.
But he's off to a fine start.
