The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-handed pitcher Casey Lawrence off of waivers from the Seattle Mariners. Toronto currently a spot open on it's 40-man roster, and could utilize Lawrence as early as Tuesday.

It's an interesting development for all involved. Lawrence had been with the Mariners three separate already this season. Each time generally consisted of one or two outings before he was designated for assignment and subsequently re-signed.
This time however, the Blue Jays put in a waiver claim.
They could use some help too. Following Sunday's doubleheader, neither Chris Bassitt nor Kevin Gausman will be available to pitch on regular rest, so the Blue Jays will likely need an additional starter.
Paxton Schultz is with the team and is an option, but he threw 57 pitches in relief on Sunday and might unavailable for a few days. Yariel Rodriguez could also be an option, but he would likely be piggy-backed with a long reliever. Easton Lucas can't be called up for another six or seven days. Jake Bloss started for Buffalo yesterday and wouldn't be available Wednesday and Eric Lauer hasn't gotten off to the best of starts.
Enter Casey Lawrence.
The 37-year old, who has pitched for Toronto twice before, has the ability to go multiple innings and has started in the past and could be a legitimate option for the team.
The Jays currently have an opening on the 40-man roster, made possible by the transferring of Ryan Burr to the 60-Day IL, but would need to make a move on the active roster.
It could be a short-term solution as Lawrence is out of options and would have to be DFA'd rather than sent down to the minors.
Still, this is a reunion that could turn out to be a positive one.
